17th Sept 2006: League v Yeovil (Away)

Cully pulled off a 1-3 victory over Yeovil Town, despite being 1-0 down until the 75th minute. An inspired last 15 minutes saw Cully turn the game on its head, and take the 3 points they felt they deserved. Yeovil took the lead in the 20th minute when Josie Copp met their free kick, but her header unfortunately looped over Max into the the Cully net.

Good play on the flanks from Hayley Sharrod and Chrissie Daniels could not break down the Yeovil defence and despite good pressure Cully failed to capitalise on their chances. The best opportunity of the half fell to Laura Gough (Goughy), her speed broke the off side trap and she found herself one on one with the keeper.
A strong shot was parried away and the score remained 1-0 at half time.

The gaffer made a tactical substitution at half time and switched to a back 3. Becky Maunder made way as Jamie Schofield was introduced to bolster the midfield. This change meant Cully kept more possession, and they started to play a more controlled, passing game. Early in the second half Cully won their first corner. An accurate ball from Catherine Wright (Curly) found Josie who flew in with a diving header, which was cleared off the line. Two further subsititutions saw Gabby Trays introduced on the left and Kim Betlam on the right. Despite the Cully possession, the breakthrough seemed elusive.

Yeovil piled on the pressure, as they tried to add to thier tally. The defence and Max were there to foil them, Max punched well from a corner...and headed clear from outside her box, in quick sucession to keep Cully in the game.

The visitors were rewarded with the equaliser in the 75th minute. A great ball from Curly found Laura Carpenter (Titch) unmarked as she ran through on goal. The keeper came out, narrowed the angle, but a cool finish from Titch saw the ball slotted into the back of the net.

With Yeovil disheartened, Cully took full advantage and two minutes later pounced again to take the lead. Good play in midfield found Goughy on the edge of the box, her shot was saved but the ball fell to Gabby, who made no mistake and drilled it past the keeper.

The spirited come back lifted Cully and they put the game out of reach in the 80th minute. From the back, Kerry Powell-Tuckett found Kim on the right, who made a darting run down the wing. Her cross found Emma Redwood, who got in front of her marker on the edge of the 6yd box, and superbly volleyed the ball leaving the keeper no chance.

A great fight back from Cully saw them take all 3 points. It was a spirited display from the girls, and the Gaffer showed his tactical brain with a change to a back 3 at half time working well.

Next weeks game against Cheltenham Town kicks off at 2pm at Speeds Meadow.
