18th Nov

Cully came away convincing winners against Okehampton , winning 0-16 in the County Cup, however all credit went to the battling Devon side. Cully switched their home advantage and played down at Oke in the of their spirited and vocal supporters. Cully started with the 3-5-2 formation of recent weeks and got themselves on the score sheet within the first 2 minutes when Curly (Catherine Wright) placed an accurate side foot past the keeper. The girls concentrated on quick, neat possesssion and played the ball well amongst themselves. Josie Copp got the second goal with a low, powerful shot. The home keeper was in fine form, tipping over a shot from Jess Hooper, Jess though turned provider setting up Angie Pope for her first goal, which she neatly put into the back of the net.

Wing backs Jonesy (Emma Jones) and Kim Betlem were seeing alot of the ball and an excellent cross from Kim on the right found Pope who volleyed home from close range to make it 0-4. Cully were then awarded a pen when Jess was tripped in the box. Pope was denied from the spot kick as the keeper made an excellent save putting the shot over the bar. Pope though made amends and completed her hat-trick soon after, putting away a neat through ball from Josie Copp. Redders (Emma Redwood) kept up her scoring run when Pope turned provider and Redders sent the keeper the wrong way and slotted home. Bucky (Karen Buck) then had a header cleared off the line from a corner before Pope got her 4th just before half time.

A change of positions in the second half saw the defence as wingers and forwards and vice-versa, Redders swapping with Max in goal. This had an immediate impact when Kerry Powell-Tuckett scored with her 1st touch of the 2nd half. Her left footed strike was out of the top drawer, the keeper unable to keep it out as it curled into the top corner of the net. Kaylee Symons then showed her finishing prowess as she calmly side footed her shot into the corner of the net. Not to be outdone ex-striker Max Coupe was on hand to volley in from close range, timing her run to perfection. The usual defence were enjoying their more advanced roles and playing the ball around neatly. Kaylee slid in for her second goal, just beating the keeper who came out bravely. Curly completed her brace with a trademark shot from the edge of the box. Kim was rewarded for her fine display when she drilled home an unstoppable shot with the outside of her right boot. Bucky then got onto the scoresheet when a cross from Kaylee was dummied by Max and Buckys shot took a helpful deflection off the defender to send the keeper the wrong way. Josie then got her second, a fine team goal as nearly every player was involved in the build up. Redders started it at the back playing it out wide to Curly, she played a one-two with sub Mitchell before driving forward and the ball was played around the midfield before Josies lethal shot hit the back of the net. Emma Jones completed the scoring when she scored from the spot, Cully were awarded a second penalty when Max was unfairly pole-axed as she was set to shoot. Jonesy cooly placed the kick high and to the keepers left. Oke battled and thier excellent team spirit was duplicated by the local supporters. Cully now have a weeks rest before returning to league action at home versus Bristol Uni on Dec 2nd.
